Although born in Virginia, Rev. Shawn Barkley spent most of his formative years in Richmond, Kentucky where his father was a college professor and mother a Registered Nurse. After graduating Cum Laude from Western Kentucky University in Pre-Law, Shawn sensed God was calling him not to a career in law, but to ministry. He graduated from Columbia Seminary and at age 26 began serving as a solo Pastor for Crestwood Presbyterian Church in High Point, NC. After four years at Crestwood, Shawn accepted the call to serve as Sr. Pastor at Versailles (KY) Presbyterian Church where he served for nearly nine years. Shawn held this same position at Trinity Presbyterian in Louisville, KY and Mallard Creek Presbyterian in Charlotte, NC, before accepting the call to serve as Crestview’s Pastor in 2016.
Shawn’s passions in ministry are in the areas of discipleship development and church leadership. He has worked with congregations and pastors in the area of church redevelopment, and has been a presenter at the national PCUSA Evangelism and Church Growth Conference. In his own words, “Although I enjoy working with various congregations and ministry groups, my primary passion is serving in the pastoral role for Crestview. This is a remarkable group of people who are deeply committed to growing close to Jesus personally, while remaining outwardly focused on serving our community”.
An avid sportsman and sports fan, Shawn enjoys golfing, fishing, hiking, and watching most anything that involves a ball. He’s always happy to talk about Penn State football, University of Kentucky basketball, the Pittsburgh Pirates, or the six-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loves to read inspirational literature and non-fiction; his favorite book (next to the Bible) is A River Runs Through It. However, Shawn’s greatest joy is being husband to Amy Jo who enjoys serving Crestview in a variety of ways and also volunteers for a local non-profit; and being Dad to Davis, who is a college student.
