Discovering the heart of our worship through music
Our music program is guided by Rodney Barbour, Director of Worship and Arts, alongside Leslie Yeary, who serves as Worship Leader for our 11 am service, and Teri McKibben, our talented organist and accompanist.
What truly brings our music to life, however, are the dedicated volunteers who fill our ensembles and worship teams each week. These vocal and instrumental committed individuals form the backbone of our weekly music ministry, contributing their time and talents to enhance our corporate worship experience.
Music at Crestview is carefully selected to be scripture-focused, chosen specifically to help our congregation express praise, thanksgiving, and prayers to God. We draw from a rich tradition of Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, spanning music from all eras and directly connected to our pastor’s weekly scripture lessons.
To help worshippers better understand these connections, Crestview provides weekly worship notes explaining how the hymns, songs, anthems, and readings relate to scripture and sermon themes. Taking time to review these notes beforehand allows congregants to arrive at worship more prepared, alert, and aware of the day’s spiritual focus.
Crestview offers two distinct worship experiences each Sunday:
9:30 am Worship features our full range of musical offerings, including choir, handbells, brass, soloists, organ, and piano. This service presents a blend of traditional music with occasional modern selections. Our choir welcomes high school students and adults of all ages, and we provide rehearsal MP4 files and sheet music for home practice, allowing for comfortable and flexible participation.
11:00 am Worship takes a different approach, led by Leslie Yeary. Leslie provides guitar and piano accompaniment, small vocal groups, keyboards, and hand drums. This service maintains a relaxed atmosphere and may even include opportunities for questions and interaction during worship.
We are called to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and strength, and music is one of the primary tools through which we fulfill this commandment. Music lets us express our devotion in ways that words alone cannot capture.
Beyond worship, Crestview recognizes music as a gift from God for our enjoyment and enrichment. We are pleased to host the Cincinnati Brass Band in residence, which offers our community several free concerts throughout the year. We also welcome guest musicians regularly – in 2024, we were honored to host the Southwest Ohio Philharmonic Orchestra and the internationally recognized Canadian Brass, drawing a full sanctuary for these memorable performances.

Meets Thursdays from September through May; no auditions are required. Our “flexible schedule” offers some flexibility for singers to participate, with home rehearsal listening links provided. Participants experience the joy of being worship leaders, enjoy fellowship opportunities, and pray together as we support each other in our spiritual journey. Contact Rodney Barbour for more information.

Sunday Morning Worship at 11 am is led by a small team of musicians: vocalists, acoustic guitar, acoustic drums, and keyboard, with occasional electric guitar, bass, or violin. Contact Leslie Yeary for info on how to join the team.

If you play a brass instrument, Crestview has an excellent volunteer group that leads in worship 4-5 times per year. Rehearsals are scheduled one or two times immediately before a performance. Dan Oehrle (a Crestview member) helps lead and organize the group along with Rodney Barbour, Director of Worship and Arts.

Currently on break, with plans to resume in the fall of 2025. Bells “ring best” with ringers having some music reading skills and previous ringing experience. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings 6:30-7:15 pm. Due to the nature of handbell ringing, ringers must be committed to regularly attending rehearsals.
