For Your Reflection – Hymns for Holy Week

APRIL 4 - EASTER SUNDAY

Here I Am to Worship

…I’ll never know how much it costs to see my sin upon that cross.

APRIL 3 - HOLY SATURDAY

Were You There?

Were you there when he rose up from the dead? Sometimes I feel like shouting glory, glory, glory..

APRIL 2 - GOOD FRIDAY

O Sacred Head Now Wounded

O sacred head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down, now scornfully surrounded with thorns, thine only crown.

APRIL 1 - MAUNDY THURSDAY

Ah, Holy Jesus

Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon you? It is my treason, Lord, that has undone you.

March 31 - WEDNESDAY

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

See, from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down.  Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown?

March 30 - TUESDAY

The Old Rugged Cross

In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, a wondrous beauty I see; for ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died to pardon and sanctify me.

March 29 - MONDAY

Beneath the Cross of Jesus

Just one day following the praise and excitement of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, we face the shadow of the cross.  These days of Holy Week,  it is good to take time to reflect on Jesus’ acts of love and his sacrifice.  This hymn says:  content to let the world go by, to know no gain nor loss, my sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.  I offer this “for your reflection”.

March 28 - PALM SUNDAY

Fairest Lord Jesus

Palm Sunday was the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and the people laid palm branches before him crying “HOSANNA”.  This hymn “Beautiful Savior” helps us express our adoration—simply PRAISING our LORD for who he is, for his unique being.  The text says Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forevermore be thine!
