Judges 3
When King Eglon of Moab conquered part of Israel, he set up his throne in the city of Jericho. Ehud was chosen to take Israel’s tribute there. After delivering Israel’s tribute, Ehud killed King Eglon and escaped into the hill country of Ephraim. From there, he gathered together an army to cut off any Moabites trying to escape across the Jordan River. Ehud is called a “savior.” Other translations call him a “deliverer”. In the broadest sense, all the judges can be looked upon as foreshadowing the perfect Savior, Jesus Christ. While Ehud saved Israel from its enemies, Jesus saves us from sin, our greatest enemy. This story teaches us that God can use us just the way he made us. Being left-handed in Ehud’s day was considered a handicap or, at best, an abnormality, but Ehud’s perceived weakness was used by God to give Israel victory. Let God use you the way you are to accomplish his work.
